Senior BJP leader L.K.Advani has hailed the former Lok Sabha speaker Late Justice K.S.Hegde as one of the few leaders this country has produced with a different view of the country which had always dreamt of an inclusive society. Mr. Advani was speaking at the beginning of the birth centenary year celebrations of K.S.Hegde organised by the Nitte Eduation Trust and Nitte group of companies here today.
Mr. Advani said he had proposed his name for the post of the president to the then prime minister Morarji Desai which was one of the names that came spontaneously to him he added. Later Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy had become the President of India. But the following years were tumultuous for all the right thinking people as the emergency had superseded senior judges in the country including K.S.Hegde. But like a true soldier of right cause Mr Hegde had resigned from the post and had returned to his native in Nitte village and had stated that he would continue to be a farmer rather than toiling under an autocratic regime.
Mr.Advani recalled his association with Mr. Hegde and said he was one of the few persons who had left an indelible effect on his mind and had mentored the development of his personality. He had imbibed great values of life from him he added.
Others who spoke on the occasion included former attorney general Soli Sorabjee who said there were only few legal luminaries like Justice K.S.Hegde that India has ever produced.
Former Chief Justice of India Y.V. Chandrachud also showered praises on K.S. Hegde and said he was one of the rare gems of the Indian legal system.
Family members of KS Hegde including Vinay Hegde and Justice Santhosh Hegde were present on the occasion. |
